What do you get when you put a volunteer gardener and an expert pediatrician on stage together at the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival?

This seemingly unusual partnership took the spotlight at Disney’s Greenhouse Stage on May 29 as Dr. Angela Fals from the Center for Child & Family Wellness joined with gardener-extraordinaire Brad Jones for what was billed as an “edible education experience.” The focus of their presentation, titled Growing Kids in a Garden, was on how getting kids engaged in gardening can encourage a more healthy and active lifestyle that will benefit them for years to come.

While growing healthy vegetables (some of which your kids may actually be interested in eating) is certainly one part of the formula, there’s more than just good nutrition in the balance here. In fact, gardening together affords parents and kids the opportunity to cultivate more than just a meal – it’s also a chance to help kids reconnect with nature while building family memories that will last a lifetime.

So remember: The family that gardens together STAYS together – and stays healthy together! If you’d like to learn more about how gardening with your kids can get help establish a healthier lifestyle for you and your family, set up an appointment with Dr. Angela Fals by calling the Center for Child & Family Wellness at 407.303.9200. We’re here to help with a special focus on general pediatrics, adolescent weight management and complex weight issues in children.
